The Washington, DC music scene has long been internationally recognized as a hotbed of A-List talent. From the late 1940s until the mid-1970s, the DC music scene produced a wide variety of top shelf acts that toured internationally and became household names. After the mid-1970s, the DC music scene went into hibernation, emerging again with a flourish in 2005. A handful of professional acts have carried the torch of that revival; one act in particular, the Joy B Band, has taken the DC music scene by storm. Singer, songwriter Joy Bodycomb is, according to Mark Opsasnick, author of Capitol Rock, an in-depth book about the history of the DC music scene, “the shining jewel of the Washington, DC music scene. Possessing a golden voice that is, by turn rich, melodic and soulful, she captivates her followers with a colorful sonic tapestry of classic and contemporary blues, country, jazz, and rock selections, skillfully leaving her unique signature on every musical creation she conjures." Joy is a member of the Songwriters Association of Washington and the prestigious, world-renowned Nashville Songwriters Association. She cut her teeth in the DC music scene performing with the Hall Brothers Band, featuring legendary guitarist Chick Hall, Jr. She has also been a featured artist with acclaimed blues band Bad Influence, and she has been invited to share the stage with several major DC artists, including Mary Ann Redmond, Gaylor and Katsu, Blue Project, Daryl Davis, and Mary Shaver. Joining Joy on stage are the finest first-call musicians in the DC area. Lead guitarist Dave Long has been a mainstay in the DC music scene for several years, having performed with numerous prominent bands including Flight, Night Train, Big Bill and That's Cool, and No Alibi, and he has subbed with the Relative Minors and the Hall Brothers. Bassist and songwriter Steve Carey came onto the DC scene playing with the Unknown Kind, which was a regularly featured band in the DC Area teen club circuit in the mid to late 1960s. Steve has also played with the bands T-Bone, Open Road Band, Big Bill and That's Cool, and the Paulverizers, and he has subbed with Steve Smith and the Meteors, Scott Raminger and the Crawstickers, Bad Influence, and the Andy Poxon Band. And last but certainly not least, drummer Chip Clemmer provides the drive and pulse for the band. Chip’s local credits include the Hall Brothers Band, the Paulverizers, Bad Influence, DC Authority, and the Bob Tennyson and Tom Cunningham Orchestras. He also spent 26 years as a drummer/percussionist with the United States Air Force Band, touring internationally at both the concert hall and arena levels. In addition to performing world-class original material, the Joy B Band excels at putting its own stamp on the original material of the following artists: BB King, Blind Faith, Brenda Lee, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Bob Wills, Brooks and Dunn, Buddy Guy, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Etta James, Grateful Dead, Jason Maraz, Joe Cocker, JJ Cale, Koko Taylor, Led Zepplin, Louis Jordan, Miranda Lambert, Patsy Cline, Peggy Lee, Ramons, Ray Charles, Reba McIntire, Rolling Stones, Sam Cook, Susan Tedeschi, and Vince Gill. The Joy B Band recently released their first CD, Just Livin’. With ten original songs, and one cover, the CD demonstrates the broad spectrum of styles that this band performs. The CD was recorded and mixed at Ambient Recording Studio by Ray Tilkins, and was mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Bill Wolf at Wolf Productions. Whether a concert, a club date, or a private event, the Joy B Band provides entertainment at the highest professional level. |
